Jane Rigler
SCORE: Imaginary Meditations
Flutist, composer, and improviser JANE RIGLER creates pieces that play with hidden languages, recall ancestral songs, incorporate playful game techniques and ask the performers to imagine and improvise. She is particularly interested in the relationship between the physicality of performance and sound. Her on-going work with professional dancers, Noh theater actors and Alexander Technique specialists have influenced her most recent pieces, which require movement and exploration of spaces. She has received artist residencies from iEar@RPI (2006), Hambidge (2010), UCROSS (2012), Harvestworks (2005, 2008, 2016) and Civitella Ranieri (through Composers Now) in 2016 and the Montalvo Lukas Artists Residency (2017). She is an Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. Jane is a Deep Listening Certification Holder/Teacher.
MARY JANE SULLIVAN (collaborator on Ocean Meditation)’s lifelong interest in philosophy, poetry, and film intersect as a Full-time Instructor in Film Studies and the Humanities at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. She specializes in the theories of documentary, the philosophy of nonviolence and ecopoetics, the perspectival paradigm shifts within the visual arts, and the convergence of poetry and new media. She is the founder and artistic director of Now and Then Productions, which is an arts-media educational not-for-profit organization, global in its reach for the last 30 years and winner of several awards. She earned her Masters in Media Studies with distinction from The New School for Social Research, New York, and her Ph.D., magna cum laude, from The European Graduate School, Switzerland. She is completing a book for Atropos Press entitled The Camera Eye of Poetic Thinking. She has published a chapbook of poems, Power Steering. She has been working on her Deep Listening Certificate.
